Forest Lake, NC

As the cold air started to nip, we jumped in the bus and headed towards Lexington, NC to warm ourselves up with world-class barbeque.

This was to be the first of many stays at a Thousand Trail RV resort. As we pulled into our new spot, a tickle in the back of my throat had me worried about being allergic to something in the bus.

Two days later, both of us were sniffling, coughing, and feeling like total <beeeeep>

The children were nestled all snug in their beds, the flu had gotten all up in their heads. While wanting to be curled up under the blanket (where we get to play the game of ‘throw them off… then cover back up… then throw them off again’) and drink Lipton’s Chicken Noodle Soup, Dexter was feeling great! and wanted to go explore!

Oh, the weather outside is frightful

But the fire is so delightful

The weather had taken a turn as the skies covered over with wintery-gray clouds. The air had become cold and heavy after a consistent mix of light, and not so light, rain. With Dexter nipping at my heels, I donned my raincoat and off we went down unknown trails leading through trees and dense underbrush. The trail diverged in the wood so many times that the thought of getting lost was not far on the mind when all of a sudden, the trail dumped us out into a huge field that abutted the Yadkin River. The damp air was dense and acted as a blanket leaving only the sound of some small rapids further upstream. Dexter and I would return every day to enjoy the silence and the smells.

X-MAS IS HERE !!!

As we both were still under the weather, and the weather outside still frightful, we more than welcomed the fireplace so much so, that we wanted two. As we tore the wrapping paper off the presents, in a way that can only be described as barbaric, Dexter was gingerly sniffing and biting open his gift(s). While it may have been gloomy outside, our home-away-from-home was cozy and warm and full of love.
